Unanimous decision by Church of Crete’s Holy Eparchial Synod to relieve Archbishop Irineos of duties due to health reasons

Members of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Church of Crete on Wednesday unanimously voted to relieve the Archbishop of Crete, His Eminence Irineos, of his duties due to serious health problems plaguing the hierarch.
The Holy Eparchial Synod, in an announcement, said the very painful decision was taken in a unanimous manner with all due respect and gratitude to the person of His Eminence and chairman of the Synod, Irineos.

The specific decision will now be conveyed to the Sacred and Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate next month in order to be ratified as irrevocable.
