A strong 6.3 on the Richter scale earthquake on Tuesday shook the large island of Crete and the wider eastern Mediterranean region, with an epicenter pinpointed at 14 kilometers off the isle’s eastern coast. The latest tremor came some two weeks, with a 5.8 quake, and with an epicenter on land, causing one fatality and damages to more than 5,000 buildings in the Arkalochori region.
A small chapel, dedicated to St. Nicholas, collapsed during Tuesday’s quake. Thankfully, no loss of life was reported.
