Patriarchate of Alexandria expresses deep sorrow over what it calls ‘invasion’ by Russian Church onto its canonical territory in Africa
The Sacred and Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, chaired by His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, this issued expressed its heightened condemnation of what it called the “invasion” of the Moscow Patriarchate into the African continent with the non-canonical establishment of an Exarchate there.
The Sacred and Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria had convened for three days this week, ending its sessions on Wednesday.
The venerable Patriarchate of Alexandria, second in ranking after the Mother Church of Constantinople, expressed its deep sorrow for the synodal decision of the Russian Patriarchate to establish the Exarchate within the canonical jurisdiction of the ancient Church of Alexandria.
The Sacred and Holy Synod also stated that it will brief the Ecumenical Patriarchate and other Orthodox Churches, via their Primates, over the matter.
