Patriarch of Serbia Porfirije: ‘even people who accuse Serbian Orthodox Church of engaging in politics know this is not true’
Two days after violent protests by extremists in Montenegro attempting, unsuccessfully, to prevent the enthronement of new Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Joanikije, the Patriarch of Serbia, His Holiness Porfirije, emphasized in a media interview that “…that even people who accuse the Serbian Orthodox Church of engaging in politics know that this is not true.”
In an interview conducted during his visit to Montenegro over the weekend, the Serbian Patriarch underlined that the Church itself cannot be politicly affiliated, or put in a position to select one faction against another.
His Holiness added: “…The Church brings people together, it is an institution that has a place for everything, but by its nature, it is an institution that embraces everyone, especially the one who has something against the Church. So, we have nothing to answer about, we know that these allegations are not true.”
