The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, on Wednesday began his pastoral tour of Uganda, beginning from the St. Nicholas Cathedral where he was warmly welcomed by the Elder Archbishop Makarios of Kampala, Bishop of Gulu and Eastern Uganda Silvester and multitudes of faithful.

The Patriarch of Alexandria extended his condolences to the Orthodox Church in Uganda for the loss of reposed Metropolitan Jonah, whom he referred to as a strong pillar of the Alexandrian throne. Amidst heavy rain, His Beatitude laid a wreath and kissed the reposed hierarch’s grave.

Theodoros II also planted a tree outside the cathedral, with the first day of his wide-ranging missionary tour concluded at the Holy Monastery of St. Mary the Egyptian, where he was received by the brotherhood of monks and children of an affiliated orphanage that operates on its premises.
Young people greeted the Patriarch of Alexandria with traditional Cretan dances, as Theodoros hails from the eponymous island.
