Next few days critical for Elder Ephraim; deterioration in his health condition

The health of the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim has deteriorated over the past few hours, due to complications from infections caused by his continued treatment in an Athens hospital’s ICU, according to attending physicians on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the latter, a sudden deterioration in the health of the Abbot of the Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, with the medical staff prescribing stepped up medication to reverse the situation.

The Elder Ephraim has been treated at the public Evangelismos hospital in central Athens since May 28.

The next few hours are deemed as critical for the spiritual father of thousands of Orthodox faithful around the world.
