The Thessaloniki-based Mount Athos Center is participating in events this year commemorating the bicentennial of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence, with an international conference focusing on the topic of the Greek Revolution and Mount Athos. The three-day conference will begin on Friday, and is co-organized by the Society for Macedonian Studies, also based in Thessaloniki.
In a related development, an online multi-session conference on the Greek War of Independence, organized by the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi and the Holy Metropolis of Nea Krinis and Kalamaria, will continue until March 29, 2022.
The 17 separate sessions, complete with 34 speakers and academics, began on Nov. 16 and is live-streamed by the online platform Pemptousia Television.
