Metropolitan of Montenegro Joanikije holds prayer service at Mausoleum to Serbian WWI fallen on islet off Corfu
The Serbian Orthodox Church’s Metropolitan-Bishop of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Joanikije, on Monday conducted a trisagion prayer service at a military mausoleum on the small islet of Vido for the repose of the souls of Serbian soldiers who fell during WWI.
Vido is located at the mouth of the port of Corfu, itself located off extreme northwest Greece.
His Eminence arrived on Corfu on Saturday following an invitation by the Metropolitan of Corfu, His Eminence Nektarios, to participate in solemn and festal services on the occasion of Sunday’s feast day of St. Spyridonas, the isle’s patron saint.
Corfu served as a refuge for the Serbian army and civilians during the Great War.
