According to an announcement by the local Archdiocese, an exodios funeral service for the reposed hierarch of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece will be held in the early afternoon on Thursday at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, in the city of Megaloupoli, in Arcadia prefecture of the central Peloponnese, in southern Greece.
The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece has appointed the Metropolitan of Monemvasia & Sparta, His Eminence Eustathios, as the locum tenens until the election of a new Metropolitan to succeed reposed hierarch Jeremiah.
The beloved Metropolitan had been plagued by health problems for some time, but remained unflinching in his pastoral duties, officiating at Church services, preaching to the faithful and writing.
As an associate of the St. Maximos the Greek Institute, the reposed hierarch was heard on radio programs aired on the online platform Pemptousia and published texts on both the Pemptousia and Orthodoxia News Agency (OPE) sites.
According to reports by ope.gr, the reposed Metropolitan had been hospitalized over the recent period due to serious heart ailments. It was also noted that reposed Metropolitan Jeremiah was not infected with Covid-19 and was fully vaccinated, including a third dose.
