The Metropolitan of Fthiotida, His Eminence Simeon, this week visited a shelter for asylum seekers near Thermopylae, in south-central Greece.
The shelter temporarily hosts 149 minors and their parents.
His Eminence was briefed by the shelter’s management over its operation and toured the facilities, including a chapel dedicated to the Holy Unmercenaries, and a shrine to the Virgin Mary, all located within the site.
The Metropolitan also had the opportunity to meet privately with a handful of Orthodox Christian families, all from the Middle East, and hosted at the shelter.
A first instruction in Christian Orthodoxy, in fact, was provided on Wednesday to three families from Iraq, who have expressed a desire to be baptized in the Orthodox faith.
