Metropolitan of Corfu: Covid-19 vaccine a medical issue, not a spiritual one

The Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxous and the Diapontian Isles, His Eminence Nektarios, chaired a general synaxis, or assembly, of clerics on Friday on the Ionian island of Corfu, the first such assembly after months of delays imposed by the pandemic.
In his statements to the assembly’s delegates, His Eminence called on Orthodox clergymen to avoid assuming the role of a physician of the body, as he said, while referring to major clashes between various special interests in our time, along with what he called scientific competition and one-sided information.
Metropolitan Nektarios added: “…the Covid-19 vaccine is a medical issue, not a spiritual one. We are obliged to be careful in the face of any absolute view; we must hear our Church, and reject any discussion regarding the Holy Communion as well as to avoid unnecessary divisiveness.”
