The Metropolitan of Aetolia & Akarnania Kosmas reposed in the Lord in the early morning hours of Monday.
The reposed metropolitan had been treated in an ICU ward at a major Athens hospital for more than a month, suffering from severe Covid-19 symptoms and underlying health conditions.
The reposed hierarch had not been vaccinated for the coronavirus.
An exodios funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 4.
The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece has appointed the Metropolitan of Nafpaktos & Aghios Vlassios, His Eminence Ierotheos, as the locum tenens of the widowed Metropolis until a new Metropolitan is elected and enthroned.
His Eminence Ierotheos will also represent the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, at the funeral and interment services.
