The Metropolitan of Drinoupolis, Pogoniani and Konitsa, His Eminence Andreas, this week aired his concerns over the latest developments in northern Epirus, the southern-most areas of Albania that border with Greece, referring to a mistake by ethnic Greek political parties to cooperate with larger political formations in the former country.
His Eminence, whose Metropolis’ ecclesiastical boundaries are located on Greece’s northwestern frontier, said such election cooperation dilutes the actual number of ethnic Greeks in southern Albania, something that has long been a goal of nationalist forces in that country.
He added that by diluting the electoral presence of ethnic Greeks in the neighboring country, only two members of the Greek minority were elected to the Albanian Parliament.
