Members of the permanent Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece will convene on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, with the primary issues on the agenda being the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination program in Greece as well as a draft bill recently tabled by the education and religious affairs ministry, which, among others, affects the secondary ecclesiastical education sector in the country.

According to information obtained by the Orthodoxia news agency,  hierarchs may also discuss the health situation of His Eminence Klimis, the Metropolitan of Peristeri, in west Athens, and the hierarch’s ability to carry out his ecclesiastical duties.

In terms of the national vaccination program, the Greek government recently requested the Church’s contribution in persuading citizens to get inoculated.

The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, will brief members of the Holy Synod regarding his recent contacts with government officials, while the relevant health minister will then brief the Holy Synod over the matter on Tuesday morning.
