The theology school of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on Tuesday afternoon hosted an event devoted to the film “Man of God”, on the occasion of the feast day of St. Nektarios of Aegina.
The event was co-hosted by the St. Maximus the Greek Institute.
The film, written and directed by Yelena Popovic, was also shown during the event, held within the framework of the class “Theology and Cinema”.
Greek actor Aris Servetalis, who portrays St. Nektarios in the film, was also on hand, later answering questions by attending professors and students.
In opening the event, the dean of the school of theology, Prof. Chrysostomos Stamoulis, first thanked the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, for Tuesday’s initiative, before speaking on the life and personality of St. Nektarios.
The director of the St. Maximus the Greek Institute, Maria Giahnaki, as well as Popovic, also spoke at the beginning of the event. The Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi was represented by Hieromonk Maximos of Vatopedi.
On her part, Giachnaki thanked the Monastery of Vatopedi and Abbot Ephraim for the realization of the highly successful film project, stating that without the support, both financial and spiritual, the movie depicting the life of this contemporary saint would not have been possible.
The entire event will be posted on the online television platform Pemptousia in the coming days.
