A large wildfire west of the greater Athens area, near the resort town of Loutraki on the Corinth Gulf, was burning hundreds of acres of pine forest in a remote semi-mountainous region over the past 24 hours. As a precaution, the Holy Monasteries of St. Paraskevi and St. John Makrinos were evacuated, while later on Thursday the flames reached the walls of the former.
