LAW OF GOD FOR CHILDREN PUBLISHED IN LANGUAGE OF INDIGENOUS SIBERIAN PEOPLE

The Russian Orthodox Church’s mission to provide Scripture and other religious texts in the languages of the various ethnic peoples who call Russia their home continued this week with the publication of The Law of God for Children in the Tuvan language.

Work on the book began in the spring and continued for several months. It was published in 500 copies, reports the Kyzyl Diocese.

The book talks about the Lord, the Sacraments of the Church, Holy Scripture, and much more. It will be distributed free of charge by missionaries in Tuvan villages and parishes of the diocese.

Bordering both China and Mongolia, the Tuvan Republic’s main religions are Buddhism and Shamanism in addition to holy Orthodoxy. The Tuvans are a Turkic indigenous people. The Tuvan language is a Siberian Turkic language. There are about 300,000 Tuvans living in Russia.

A complete Tuvan translation of the Bible was published in 2011.
