This month’s meeting of the permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece wound up on Thursday, the third consecutive day of sessions.
The primary issues discussed on Thursday again included the Covid-19 vaccination program in Greece, as the government has recently called on the Church to help persuade the faithful to get vaccinated. Additionally, hierarchs discussed the issue of secondary ecclesiastical education in the country, with a subsequent statement stating that the Holy Synod will insist on its 14 proposals, which were tabled with relevant education minister.
According to sources who spoke to the Orthodoxia Νews Αgency, the Metropolitans of Aetolias and Akarnanias, His Eminence Kosmas, and the Metropolitan of Kythira, His Eminence Seraphim, who will be called at next month’s Holy Synod session to offer explanations.
In a related development, the Metropolitan of Piraeus, His Eminence Seraphim, speaking during a television appearance this week, underlined that “…the Church does not impose its will”, in reference to the vaccination program and the pandemic. He added, however, that on issues for which we do not have knowledge, it is better to listen to the experts.
