Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy delegation at Ecumenical Patriarchate

The general secretary of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, New Democracy party MP Maximos Harakopoulos, referred to the demographic shrinkage of the ethnic Greek community in the greater Constantinople area, speaking during a visit by members of the assembly to the Ecumenical Patriarchate — on the occasion of the 30-year anniversary of the enthronement of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.
Harakopoulos met with ethnic Greek leaders and discussed the long-standing problems faced by the ethnic Greek community in the ancient Bosporus metropolis.

Members of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly also met with local community leaders after an Archieratical Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, in the Halkidona district, officiated by the Elder Metropolitan of Halkidona, His Eminence Emmanuel.

In welcoming members of the delegation, His Eminence expressed joy over “…seeing among us Orthodox brothers from co-religionist countries, such as Georgia, Ukraine and Russia. I am convinced that Hellenism will never extinguish in Constantinople”.
