Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis onTuesday is paying a closely watched official visit to Tripoli, in Libya, as Athens plans to restore its diplomatic presence in the war-ravaged North African country, with an embassy in Tripoli and a general consulate in Benghazi.
Restored diplomatic relations between the two Mediterranean countries come ahead of the milestone return of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa’s Metropolitan of Tripoli, His Eminence Theofylaktos, to the country.

The Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, last week announced that Orthodox churches in Libya would reopen soon.

The Patriarch of Alexandria underlined that the Greek premier’s visit to Libya will convey a message of peace to all sides, while adding that “…Libya is a neighboring country of Egypt, which is under the spiritual and ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.”
