Greece’s education and religious affairs ministry this week issued a new decision detailing the manner in which a secondary school pupil may be excluded from religion lessons.

The decision will apply to the coming academic year.

According to the decision, which has already been published in the government gazette, pupils who are not Orthodox Christians, and who so desire, may be excluded from the obligation of attending this lesson. The pupil’s parents or guardians will be granted an exclusion by submitting a relevant written form to a school’s principal.
