Greek FM: We used Turkish aggressiveness as a ‘weapon’ against Turkey itself

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias this week detailed various aspects of the east Mediterranean country’s foreign policy, speaking at an online event organized by the Council for International Relations.

In answer to questions on Greek-Turkish relations, Dendias said: “…Given the country’s capabilities, its geopolitical footprint and geographical position, I must say that we’re quite happy with what was achieved over the past two years by the Mitsotakis government.”

He further detailed “…We believe that, to the extent that it can be dealt with, heightened Turkish aggressiveness, and a type of neo-Ottomanism …has been dealt with…We could, and did, use Turkish aggressiveness as a so-called ‘weapon’ against Turkey itself. In other words, Turkey itself helped us to forge mutual understanding and alliances.”
