Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias this week briefed European Union counterparts over the latest instances of Turkey’s delinquent behavior, during a comprehensive discussion held in New York City on the sidelines of the 76th UN General Assembly.

According to diplomatic sources, Dendias focused on the unacceptable action of a Turkish warship last week, which tried to interfere with a vessel conducting scientific research within Greece’s imminent maritime exclusive economic zone.

Dendias stressed that the Maltese-flagged research vessel was located a mere 10 nautical miles east of the large island of Crete, in a sea region bordering a landmark Greek-Egyptian maritime delimitation agreement of August 2020.

Greece’s top diplomat pointed out that Turkish behavior has now surpassed the margins of reason, and in no way is compatible with an image of “normality” that the Erdogan regime now wants to portray.

As he said, this is an image that, unfortunately, has nothing to do with reality.

The Greek minister also met with his counterparts from several African country, with the main topics up for discussion being security matters and illegal migration.
