The condition of the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim continues to improve, attending physicians reported on Saturday.

The Abbot of the Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos has been treated at the public Evangelismos Hospital in central Athens since May 28.

The beloved Elder’s attending physicians said he continues to respond positively to medication, while physical therapy has begun in order to improve the Elder’s respiration.

He was intubated on June 4, and after two weeks successfully underwent a tracheotomy.

The medical team, led by Dr. Anastasia Kotanidou, as well as all of the healthcare staff at Evangelismos’ ICU ward, have acquired extensive experience after months of treating cases involving acute symptoms of the Covid-19 virus.

It’s this highly dedicated medical team that has helped the Elder gradually recover from the critical condition that befell him since contracting Covid-19. The Elder Ephraim’s condition was exacerbated by underlying conditions, with physicians today nevertheless appearing guardedly optimistic about the course of his health.
