Humanity awaits the advent of the New Year this evening, with a global desire and expectation that 2022 brings an end to the specter of the Covid-19 pandemic plaguing the world. A portion of the planet has already rung in the New Year, beginning in the western Pacific.
The recent appearance and subsequent prevalence of the more contagious Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus generated more than 35,500 single-day infections in Greece on Thursday, a development that brought up stricter public health measures the same day, and ahead of the traditional and boisterous New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Public health experts and epidemiologists in the country warned the public to limit family dinners and house parties and to take all necessary precautions.
