Feast day of Cosmas & Damian, the Holy Unmercenaries

The Church today venerates the memory of Cosmas & Damian, the Holy Un-mercenaries.

These Saints, who are different from those celebrated on Nov. 1, were from Rome. They were physicians, freely bestowing healing, asking nothing from the healed other than that they confess and believe in Christ. They ended their life in martyrdom in the year 284.

The feast day of the Holy Unmercenaries, was celebrated in splendorous rite at the cathedral in the northern city of Thessaloniki dedicated to the saints.
An Orthros service was held in the morning, followed by a con-celebratory Divine Liturgy officiated by the Very Reverend Archimandrite Fotios, the General Hierarchical Commissioner of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki.
