EYEWITNESS TO MONASTERY BOMBING SAYS A MIRACLE PREVENTED GREATER CASUALTIES
Roman Karpov, an eyewitness to yesterday’s bombing at the Orthodox school at the Entrance of the Theotokos Monastery in Serpukhov, believes a miracle prevented greater casualties from the explosion.
According to Karpov, the bomber, who it seems intended to kill himself as well, though he is still alive in the hospital, wasn’t able to get inside to where all the children were because the door to the school was jammed.
“The disaster didn’t get inside,” he said. “All of the children were gathered for prayer in one of the chapels. Right when some of the children were passing by, the door jammed, and he, carrying this bomb… This disaster didn’t make its way inside, where there were more people,” Karpov said, reports 360tv.ru.
“It can be called a miracle that the door jammed,” the eyewitness exclaimed.
He also emphasized that the Church was celebrating St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle on the day of the bombing. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence at all. The bells were ringing very loudly today, as if something was going to happen.”
The perpetrator of the incident is a recent graduate of the Orthodox school at the monastery. Reports say he was bullied during his time at the school, and it’s believed his motive was anger towards the teachers and nuns.
Reports say 10 or 12 children were injured. According to the latest report from Interfax-Religion, eight people are in the hospital following the incident. Six are in satisfactory condition, one in a state of moderate severity, and the bomber himself is in the ICU.
