An eight-day period of devotional and celebratory events venerating the memory of St. Demetrius the New, the protector and patron saint of Bucharest, commenced on Thursday morning. The feast day of St. Demetrius the New is annually celebrated on Oct. 27.
Holy Services commemorating the saint will be conducted at the Patriarchate of Bucharest and will be broadcast live throughout Romania by the Church-affiliated Trinitas radio-television broadcaster.
