The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Tuesday afternoon, amid the thronal celebration on the occasion of the feast day of Andrew, the First-Called Apostle, received a delegation of mayors from Greece’s largest municipalities.
The mayors of Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras and Mytilene, on the island of Lesvos, arrived in the ancient Bosporus metropolis to attend a Balkan Cities Network Summit, hosted by the massive metropolitan authority’s mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
In greeting the office-holders to the Phanar-district Patriarchate, His All Holiness first referred to the initiatives taken by the Mother Church of Christ in response to the pandemic, as well as the need for people to get vaccinated, underlining that “… the Church accompanies science, it does not see it as an opponent, as faith and science complement each other for the good of humanity”.
