Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I received by Greek president on Tues.
The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, this week continued his long-awaited pastoral visit to Athens. The Primate of the Mother Church arrived over the weekend to attend events marking the 30-year anniversary of his ascension to the Patriarchal throne.
Early on Tuesday afternoon, Greek President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou received His All Holiness at the presidential mansion in Athens. Sakellaropoulou first congratulated the Ecumenical Patriarch for his three decades on the throne of the Patriarchate, saying she is certain that His All Holiness will continue to spiritually lead the millions of Orthodox Christians around the world, serving the same principles with an emphasis on individual rights and the environment.
Bartholomew thanked the Greek president and said He felt blessed to be commemorating the 30-year anniversary as the Ecumenical Patriarch with the Greek people.
A day earlier, the Ecumenical Patriarch received US ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt at his central Athens lodgings.
Taking to his official Twitter account afterwards, the veteran US diplomat noted that “…It was a great honor to see His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, to offer my respects on his 30th Anniversary in office and congratulations on his historically successful visits to Ukraine and the US. The United States is committed to our friendship with the Orthodox Church and supporting religious freedom.”
