Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I meets with newly elected mayor of NYC Adams

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All-Holiness Bartholomew I, on Wednesday, the last day of his official visit to the United States, met with the newly elected mayor of New York City, Eric Leroy Adams, who was elected on Tuesday as the 110th mayor of biggest American metropolis.
The meeting took place in a very cordial atmosphere, and in the presence of Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, as well as members of the Patriarchal delegation and other hierarchs of the Archdiocese of America.

The very symbolic meeting came after the Ecumenical Patriarch successfully underwent a stent placement at the Mount Sinai Hospital.

He is expected to be released today from the hospital.

Following results of a check-up at the same Manhattan hospital, as well as consultations with attending physicians, the Ecumenical Patriarch was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon for an angiogram.

According to media reports, there was no concern about Ecumenical Patriarch’s health, as the problem was previously known, and the procedure was set to be performed at some point in the future.

The newly elected mayor of New York chose to visit the Archdiocese of America immediately after his election, as he had reportedly developed a personal friendship with Archbishop Elpidophoros during the period of the pandemic.
