Church of Greece Holy Synod convened in person for first time in roughly two years
Members of the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece convened in person on Monday for regular sessions that will be concluded on Friday. The occasion marked the first time in roughly two years that hierarchs of the Church of Greece have assembled in one place together, as previous special precautions and restrictions were in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The current week-long sessions, however, will not take place at the synodal hall of the Petraki Monastery complex in central Athens, but instead at the Inter-Orthodox center at the Monastery of Penteli, due north of the Greek capital.
Α Divine Liturgy was held before the commencement of the Holy Synod sessions at the catholicos, or main cathedral, at the monastery, dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos, and officiated by the most junior of Metropolitans, His Eminence Ierotheos, of Limnos and Aghios Efstratios.
