A draft bill tabled by the education and religious affairs ministry last week was presented today by the relevant minister, Niki Kerameos, in the presence of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
One of the provisions in the proposed legislation affects higher ecclesiastical academies in the country.
On its part, the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and individual hierarchs in the country have expressed their unwavering opposition to any changes in the regime governing such secondary educational institutions, as well as their number, as four operate today.
In fact, a Holy Synod delegation of three Metropolitans met with the education minister last week and handed her a memorandum with 14 proposed amendments to the draft legislation, as requested by the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece.
