Body of composer Mikis Theodorakis to lay in state at Athens Metropolitan Cathedral for 3 days

The body of late composer Mikis Theodorakis will lay in state at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral for three days this week to allow citizens to pay their last respects to the renowned artist. On Wednesday, Theodorakis’ earthly remains will be transported to the large island of Crete, where interment will take place at the cemetery of his ancestral village of Galata, outside the city of Hania, and in a family plot next to his parents and brother.

Theodorakis, 96, passed away last week in Athens. A three-day period of national mourning was subsequently declared in Greece, with condolences pouring in from around the world, including from Orthodox hierarchs.
