Beginning of Nativity Fast

The Church today venerates the memory of Gurias, Samonas and Avivos, Martyrs and Confessors of Edessa.
Today also marks the beginning of the Nativity Fast, one of four main fast periods throughout the ecclesiastical year. Beginning on Nov. 15 and concluding on Dec. 24, on the eve of Christmas.
