The Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, on Sunday officiated at a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the celebrating Cathedral of St. Spyridon in Kingsford, Sydney, on the occasion of the feast day of the saint.
In a sermon afterwards, His Eminence outlined the historical role and the sacrificial contribution of the Mother Church, while adding: “…I cannot imagine the Orthodox Church without the Ecumenical Patriarchate…Despite what is said and heard; despite whatever voices… and the voices of secularism, there can be no Orthodox Church without the first in rank of Orthodoxy, which is the Ecumenical Patriarch.”
