The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Monday participated, via teleconference, at the 6th Delphi Economic Forum, which is taking place in Athens this week.
Among others, His Eminence, a native of Constantinople, called on official Turkey to reverse its shocking decision to reconvert the emblematic Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
In an indirect reference to Islamist Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Archbishop said he used the “…unacceptable right, as they say, of the conqueror. These practices belong to other eras.”
Elpidophoros also wondered if “Turkey is returning to its Ottoman past, to pre-democratic Turkey”.
Finally, the Archbishop revealed that the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, will visit the White House soon, possibly at the end of October.
