The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, on Tuesday evening attended the premier of the motion picture “Smyrna, My Beloved”, held at the Athens Concert Hall.
The film, by director Grigoris Karantinakis and written by noted Greek actress Mimi Denisi and Martin Sherman, features an all-star cast of Greek and Turkish actors. The film recounts the period before, during and after the barbaric sacking of the ancient and celebrated western Asia Minor port city of Smyrna in September 1922 by Turkish nationalist forces.
The film opens in movie theaters on Dec. 23 in Greece.
