Events commemorating the 194th anniversary of the heroic resistance and destruction of Psara during the Greek War of Independence were held on the eastern Aegean island over the past weekend.
An archieratical Great Vespers was held on Saturday at the Cathedral of St. John the Forerunner and the Church of St. Anne of the Black Ridge, where the island’s residents made their last stand.
The service was held with the participation of the Metropolitan of Chios, Psara and Oinousses, His Eminence Markos, and the Bishop of Apolloniados, His Grace Joachim.
Afterwards, His Eminence officiated at a Trisagion prayer service at the memorial to the fallen in the struggle for Greek Independence from dour Ottoman rule.
