Stricter pandemic-related measures announced by Greek gov’t

The Greek government, as mostly expected, on Wednesday announced a number of stricter measures aimed to prevent exposure to the Covid-19 virus, especially the more contagious Omicron variant, and ahead of the annual New Year’s Eve celebrations.
Warning bells sounded in the east Mediterranean country a day earlier, as the number of single-day confirmed instances of the virus reached a record of 21,657, of which nearly 10,000 were in the greater Athens area.

Public health experts and epidemiologists warned that the Omicron variant is now pervasive throughout the country.
