King of Jordan Abdullah II bestows First State Centennial Medal to Patriarchate of Jerusalem
The King of Jordan, Abdullah II, this week expressed his best wishes to Jordanian and Palestinian Christians, on the occasions of feast day of Christmas and the New Year’s holiday, speaking during a meeting with the Church leaders of Jordan and Jerusalem, as well as representatives of other faiths.
The monarch commended the dedication of the Churches of Jerusalem to the Pact of Omar Al-Khattab and to the concept of co-existence, based on the historic and legal status quo of the Holy City.
During the meeting, King Abdullah bestowed the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, represented by His Most Godly Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, with the First State Centennial Medal, in appreciation of its historical significance and leading role of the Patriarchate in preserving the Christian presence in the Holy City.
