Greek PM’s presence at Monday’s Church of Greece Holy Synod session deemed ‘historic’

The presence of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Monday’s extraordinary session of the Permanent Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Church of Greece is being described as “historic”, as it will be the first time that a head of government of the modern Greek state attends such as synodal session.
Besides discussions on the course of the pandemic in the country and a Covid-19 vaccination program, all ahead of the Christmas holidays, the Church of Greece will reportedly request an increase in the number of employed Orthodox clerics from 6,000 today to 10,000, as well as possible revisions to the Charter of the Church of Greece.
