Stricter measures in Greece against Covid-19 exposure

The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday evening announced even stricter measures in the east Mediterranean country for adults that are not vaccinated for the Covid-19 virus, including an obligation to present a negative rapid or PCR test result, or a prior infection certificate, for the entrance into houses of worship.
Unvaccinated adults in Greece, who up until now were barred from indoor areas of food and beverage establishments, as of Monday will also not be able to enter all public indoor areas, including cinemas, theaters, gymnasiums, museums, and sports venues without presenting a vaccination or previous infection certificate.

Supermarkets and other stores selling non-durable goods, along with mass transports are excluded from the stiffer measures.

Regarding the entry into churches and chapels in the predominately Orthodox country, unvaccinated worshippers may enter only by presenting a negative private lab test result, or with a prior infection certificate.

Mitsotakis also referred to a recent encyclical by the Permanent Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece, where the Church’s hierarchs appealed to the faithful and clergy to observe protection measures against the coronavirus.

The encyclical also encouraged people to get vaccinated, “…as indicated by the medical community as an essential measure to protect against the pandemic.”
