Ecumenical Patriarch expected to be released today from Manhattan hospital
The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, was expected to be released today from the Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, two days after successfully undergoing a stent placement.
In a statement, attending physicians said His All-Holiness’ post-operative course is satisfactory.
The Ecumenical Patriarch this week thanked all of the medical and nursing staff responsible for his care, with a trio of Greek-American physicians entrusted with the treatment of the Primate of the Mother Church of Constantinople.
Best wishes and messages for a speedy recovery poured in from around the world, with the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, speaking by phone with the Ecumenical Patriarch on Thursday.
The Patriarch of Bulgaria, His Holiness Neophyte, as well as the Archbishop of Durres, Tirana and All Albania, His Beatitude Anastasios, sent telegrams.
Greece’s political leadership also conveyed best wishes to His All Holiness, who for the past two weeks has conducted a wide-ranging Apostolic tour of the eastern United States.
Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou also expressed anticipation over the Ecumenical Patriarch’s scheduled visit to Athens on Nov. 20.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his warm wishes for a full and speedy recovery of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in a post on social media on Thursday.
Bartholomew was scheduled to return to Constantinople on Wednesday after a 12-day visit to the US, but felt unwell and was hospitalized.
After complaining of chest pains and discomfort he was immediately admitted to Mount Sinai Hospital for an angiogram and later underwent angioplasty, with stents successfully implanted.
