Thousands of pilgrims converge on Iasi for St. Paraskeva feast day
October 14 marks a special occasion for the Orthodox faithful in many southeast European lands, especially Serbia and Romania, as it is the feast day of St. Paraskevi of the Balkans, also known as Petka of Bulgaria and Serbia and Parascheva the Young.
Pilgrims from around Romania and Moldova, numbering roughly 50,000, this week arrived in the northeastern Romanian city of Iasi to venerate the saint at the historic Metropolitan Cathedral of Iasi.
Additionally, a vigil was held on Wednesday evening at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest, where the Patriarch of All Romania, His Beatitude Daniel, referred to the 380th anniversary of the recovery of the saint’s holy relics.
In Bulgaria, a con-celebratory evening Divine Liturgy was held at the Metropolis of Sofia, with the blessing of the Patriarch of Bulgaria, His Holiness Neofyt.
