Sadness, condolences over repose in the Lord of Archbishop of Kinshasa & Central Africa Nikiforos
News of the repose of Archbishop of Kinshasa and Central Africa Nikiforos caused sadness throughout the Orthodox world this week. The beloved hierarch and devoted missionary reposed in the Lord on Tuesday in the northern Greece city of Thessaloniki, hours after he was airlifted there from Africa.
In a statement, the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa said the unforgettable hierarch was a saintly figure and one of the most significant Fathers of the Patriarchal Throne of Alexandria, a shepherd who ministered with devotion and humbly sacrificed himself for missionary work in Africa.
On his part, upon learning of Nikiforos’ passing, the Archbishop of Tirana, Durres, and Αll Albania, His Beatitude Anastasios performed a memorial service and, referring to their personal acquaintance, praised the contribution of the late Metropolitan in support of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania. He stated, “…We were saddened to be informed of the repose in the Lord of our beloved brother Nikiforos. The Blessed One, before his ecclesiastical ministry in Africa, was a valuable collaborator in the Lord in the reconstruction of the Albanian Orthodox Church.”
