Metropolitan of Maronia & Komotini presides over holy wake at celebrating chapel of St. Paisios
The Metropolitan of Maronia and Komotini, His Eminence Panteleimon, presided over a holy wake on Sunday evening at the celebrating chapel of St. Paisios, adjacent to the Annunciation of the Thetokos Cathedral in the northeast city of Komotini.
The faithful venerated an icon of the saint displayed outside the chapel’s courtyard.
In a related commemoration further to the east in Evros prefecture, the Metropolitan of Didimotycho, His Eminence Damaskinos, officiated at a celebratory Vespers in memory of St. Paisios of Mt. Athos at a dedicated chapel to the saint, within the Monastery of St. Skepi/St. Paraskevi, in the Nea Vyssa township, which lies just west of the Greek-Turkish border.
Earlier on Sunday, His Eminence traveled to the small border village of Praggi, next to the Evros River, where the remnants of a Byzantine-era basilica are located.
The memory of Euphemia the Great Martyr is venerated twice a year in the courtyard of the parish cathedral of St. George, in the specific village.
