Elder Ephraim’s condition improved, stable
The Elder Archimandrite Ephraim’s condition remained stable on Thursday, attending physicians said, with improvements reported.
The beloved Elder remains intubated in an intensive care unit at the Evangelismos Hospital in central Athens and under medication, two days after a tracheotomy was performed on Tuesday morning.
A slow but consistent improvement in the Elder’s health has generated guarded optimism on the part of medical staff, and on the part of the Vatopedi Brotherhood, who are praying for the return of their Abbot to the Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi after his full recovery.
The Elder Ephraim has been treated at the specific public hospital since May 28, suffering from the Covid-19 virus. Attending physicians intubated the Elder on June 4.
His condition deteriorated dangerously for three days last week as a result of hospital-acquired sepsis, with the infection overcome with the immediate intervention of physicians and nursing staff
