Commemoration of 80th anniversary of Battle of Crete at Greek Orthodox day school of St Andrew’s Grammar in Perth
The Greek Orthodox day school of St Andrew’s Grammar in Perth, Western Australia, on Tuesday held a special assembly to commemorate the Pontian Genocide, as well as the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Crete.
The event was held in the presence of His Grace Bishop Elpidios.
The assembly was blessed to witness the presence of various current and former members of the Australian Armed Forces and surviving family members of the soldiers who fought at the Battle of Crete.
In particular, the assembly was joined by the last surviving Australian soldier in Western Australia to have served at the Battle of Crete, 102-year-old veteran Arthur Leggett.
Also present at the assembly was the Greek consul in Perth, Georgia Karasiotou, who thanked Leggett and the other Australian servicemen for the great sacrifice they made during WWII.
