Patriarch of Russia: Church educates younger generations, affirms commitment towards peace, good-neighborliness and respect of nation’s history
The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Holiness Kirill, on Sunday conveyed a message to the Russian president on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.
His Holiness made particular reference to the heroism and sacrifice of the fallen for the defense of the homeland.
Patriarch Kirill added “…The Church of Russia honors the memory of the fallen soldiers, it organized several educational programs aimed to preserve the memory of this feat of our ancestors. The Church educates the younger generations and affirms its commitment towards the ideals of peace, good-neighborliness and respect of the nation’s history.”
May 9 is Victory Day in the Russian federation, a non-working holiday that commemorates the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945.
